Brief history of AHITI Ndomba

LOCATION

The institute is located in Kirinyaga County, three kilometers from Kutus town.

INSTITUTE LAND

This is government land under the trusteeship of principal secretary. The acquisition of the land in which the institute is suited dates back to 1949 when the government through the Department of Veterinary Services wanted to establish a livestock center in this zone for livestock development.

The government bought the land from the local community in 1950 and in 1953 the center was established and run by the Department of veterinary Services as livestock improvement center. In 1966/67, the farm was taken over by the department of Agriculture and run by Embu Institute of Agriculture (Currently E.A.S.T – College).

Later in early 1970’s the National Youth Service run a section of the farm and in 1982 the Ndomba farm reverted back to the Ministry of Livestock Development which later merged with the Ministry of Agriculture to become the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries.
